What It Costs

Artificial Turf Pricing in Madison, WI

Turf is priced per square foot installed — and the rate drops as project size grows. Final pricing depends on turf product, base preparation requirements, drainage needs, and any custom features like putting cups or pet-area infill. Here's a real-world look at what our turf projects typically cost.

Smaller Projects

Under 500 sq ft

Starting at $22/sq ft

Side yards, balcony or rooftop sections, small pet areas, and compact putting greens. Smaller projects carry a higher per-foot rate because base prep, equipment mobilization, and crew setup time stay the same regardless of the square footage installed.

  • Compacted aggregate base
  • Pet-friendly infill options
  • Premium-grade turf product
  • Seamed and stapled installation
  • 1-year workmanship warranty
Large Projects

1,500+ sq ft

Starting at $15/sq ft

Full residential lawn replacement, large commercial properties, expansive rooftop terraces, and athletic surfaces. Rate drops significantly at this scale — base prep, equipment, and crew time efficiencies get passed through directly to your project.

  • Engineered drainage planning
  • Multi-zone installation capability
  • Commercial-grade turf available
  • Custom seam layout for natural look
  • 1-year workmanship warranty
What's included: Site excavation, compacted crushed aggregate base, geotextile fabric, drainage where required, premium-grade synthetic turf, infill, seaming and edging, and final cleanup.

Built for Game Day

YD Exterior Visions completed a full artificial turf installation at the Madison Mallards' Warner Park stadium — a project that demanded commercial-grade materials, engineered base preparation, and installation precision well beyond standard residential work.

This isn't a job a typical Madison landscaping company gets. Stadium turf has to handle thousands of fans, sustained foot traffic, and Wisconsin's freeze-thaw cycles while still looking sharp from the stands every game. We delivered on all of it — on time and on spec.

Stadium Level Quality

What This Means for Your Project

Most artificial turf installers in Madison handle backyards. We do too — and we also bring stadium-level discipline to every residential job. The base prep, drainage planning, and seaming techniques we used at the Mallards stadium are the same fundamentals that go into every pet area, putting green, and lawn replacement we install.

For commercial clients evaluating turf installers, the Mallards project answers the most important question up front: can this contractor actually handle a project of consequence? Yes — and we have the work to prove it.

The Case for Turf

Why More Properties Are
Going Artificial

The math is simple — turf pays for itself. No water bills, no mowing crews, no seasonal seeding. Just a perfect lawn every single day.

Zero Maintenance

No mowing, no watering, no fertilizing. Once it's installed your lawn looks perfect year-round with virtually no ongoing effort or cost.

Pet Friendly

Our pet-safe turf options are durable, easy to clean, and won't develop muddy patches or dead spots from pet use. Perfect for dog runs, kennels, and backyard play areas.

Indoor & Outdoor

Turf isn't just for yards. We install in indoor gyms, playrooms, offices, rooftops, patios, and decks — anywhere you want a clean, green surface.

Saves Water

The average lawn uses thousands of gallons of water per year. Artificial turf eliminates that entirely — better for the environment and your water bill.

Always Green

Wisconsin winters turn natural grass brown and patchy. Artificial turf stays lush and green 365 days a year — even under snow it bounces right back.

Built to Last

Quality turf products are engineered for 15-20 years of heavy use. We source durable, UV-resistant materials that hold up to Wisconsin's extreme seasonal conditions.

Common Questions

Turf Questions, Answered Honestly

The questions homeowners and businesses ask most before going artificial — answered straight, without sales fluff. If yours isn't here, just call or text.

How long does artificial turf last?

A properly installed premium-grade turf lasts 15 to 20 years with normal use. Commercial-grade turf and sports-grade products can last longer. What actually determines lifespan isn't the turf — it's the base. Turf installed on a proper compacted aggregate base with appropriate drainage outlasts turf installed on dirt or thin sand prep by years. UV resistance also matters: cheaper products fade noticeably in the Wisconsin sun within 5 to 7 years, while premium UV-stabilized turf holds its color for the full lifespan.

Is artificial turf safe and clean for dogs?

Yes — pet-friendly turf is one of our most popular applications. We use specifically rated pet turf products with antimicrobial backing, increased permeability, and odor-resistant infill. Urine drains straight through the turf and infill into the base layer below, then disperses naturally. Solid waste is picked up the same as on grass. For dog runs and kennels, we typically recommend an antimicrobial infill (like Zeolite or T°Cool) that traps ammonia and keeps the area smelling clean. Rinsing the area periodically with a hose keeps it fresh.

Does artificial turf get too hot in the summer?

This is a legitimate concern — older turf products could get noticeably hot in direct summer sun. Modern premium turf products use cooling technology (often called HeatBlock, T°Cool, or similar) that significantly reduces surface temperature on hot days. For applications with bare feet, kids, or pets, we recommend turf with built-in cooling tech plus a cooling infill. In shaded areas or with proper product selection, summer heat is rarely an issue. We discuss product selection during the in-person consultation so the turf fits your specific use.

How does artificial turf handle Wisconsin snow and winter?

Excellent, actually — turf handles winter better than natural grass. The blades stay green under the snow, and as snow melts, water drains right through the permeable backing into the base. There's no slush buildup, no muddy spring transition, no need to reseed dead patches. For snow removal, a plastic shovel or a leaf blower works fine. Metal shovels and salt should be avoided since they can damage the fibers, but a snowblower with proper settings is safe. Come spring, your turf looks the same as it did in October.

Can I install turf on a rooftop, balcony, or over concrete?

Yes — rooftop and elevated installations are a specialty of ours. For solid surfaces like concrete, decks, or rooftops, we install a specialty shock pad underlayment to provide cushioning and drainage, then the turf goes on top with proper edging. For commercial rooftops we factor in load capacity, drainage to existing roof drains, and wind uplift protection. Balcony installations follow the same principles at smaller scale. The base requirements are different from ground installs, but the finished result performs just as well.

How long does a turf installation take?

Most residential turf projects take 2 to 5 working days from start to finish. A standard 500-1,500 sq ft installation typically runs 3 to 4 days — one day for excavation and base prep, one day for compaction and drainage, and one to two days for turf laying, seaming, and infill. Larger commercial projects scale accordingly. We don't rush base prep regardless of timeline pressure — proper compaction and drainage are what make the turf last 20 years instead of 5.

Do I need to maintain artificial turf at all?

Compared to natural grass, almost nothing — no mowing, watering, fertilizing, weed-killing, or seeding. The minimal maintenance turf does need: occasional rinsing to keep the blades clean (especially for pet areas), brushing the fibers in high-traffic zones to keep them standing upright, and removing debris like leaves with a leaf blower. For commercial installations, we offer annual grooming services to keep the turf looking new. Most residential clients spend less than 30 minutes a year on turf maintenance.

What kind of warranty do you offer on turf installations?

All of our turf installations come with a 1-year workmanship warranty from the date of completion. The turf products themselves carry manufacturer warranties — premium-grade turf typically comes with 8 to 15 year warranties on UV stability, color fade, and structural integrity. If anything fails due to our installation work within the first year, we come back and fix it at no cost to you. Our commercial work, including the Madison Mallards stadium installation, is backed by the same workmanship standards.
