The questions Middleton homeowners ask us most before starting a project — answered straight, without sales fluff. If yours isn't here, just call or text.
Do I need a permit for landscaping in Middleton?
Most residential landscaping and ground-level hardscaping in Middleton does not require a permit — pavers, walkways, garden beds, mulch installs, and stone edging all fall outside permit requirements. Permits become a factor when retaining walls exceed 4 feet in height or when the project involves electrical for landscape lighting. We handle the permit research and applications as part of every project, so you don't have to navigate Middleton's zoning code yourself.
Do you work in HOA communities like Bishops Bay?
Yes. Bishops Bay, Highland Manor, Tribeca Village, and other HOA-governed communities have specific architectural standards for hardscape, landscape design, and material selection. We work within those guidelines on every project — that means submitting designs and material specs for HOA approval before breaking ground, and using approved materials. We're familiar with the most common Middleton HOA requirements, but each community has its own rules, so we'll handle the approval coordination as part of the project scope.
What parts of Middleton do you serve?
All of Middleton. We've completed projects in Bishops Bay, North Lake, Pheasant Branch, Highland Manor, the Century Avenue area, Tribeca Village, The Springs, Westridge, Parmenter Crossing, North Pointe, Stonefield, and downtown Middleton. If your specific neighborhood isn't listed, we still serve it — these are just the ones we've completed the most work in.
Middleton has a lot of slope — do you handle hilly properties?
Yes, and it's one of our most common Middleton project types. Middleton's terrain has significantly more grade change than central Madison, which is why retaining walls and tiered hardscape are so common in the area. For hilly properties we engineer drainage from the start of the project — proper aggregate base, geogrid reinforcement on walls over 3 feet, French drains where needed, and grading that directs water away from your foundation. Hillside work is harder than flat-lot work, and skipping the right base prep is what causes patios to sink and walls to lean within a few years.
Do you work on new-construction landscaping projects?
Yes. New construction in Bishops Bay, North Lake, and other Middleton developments often comes with stripped soil, no established grade, and no existing landscape — which is actually the ideal time to do hardscape and landscape work right. We coordinate with builders' timelines, work around final grading and final landscaping windows, and can install patios, walls, garden beds, and full landscape design either at the same time as the home's completion or in a separate phase after move-in. For new builds we recommend starting the landscape conversation at least 60-90 days before move-in.
How long does a typical Middleton project take?
Smaller projects like stone edging or mulch beds typically run 1 to 3 days. Mid-size patios and walls take 4 to 7 working days. Larger outdoor living projects, tiered walls in steeper areas like Highland Manor, or full landscape installs in new-construction Bishops Bay lots can run 1 to 3 weeks. We don't rush base prep when conditions aren't right, since shortcuts there are what cause failure down the road.
What time of year is best to start a Middleton project?
Our installation season runs April through November. May through September are our busiest months. Spring and early fall typically offer the best weather windows and the fastest turnaround. For Bishops Bay and other HOA communities, factor in 2-4 weeks of HOA review time before scheduling — reaching out December through March often gets you priority spring scheduling and gives plenty of room for the approval process.
What kind of warranty do you offer on Middleton projects?
All of our work comes with a 1-year workmanship warranty from the date of completion, plus a 1-year warranty on all plantings we install. The pavers, blocks, and turf products themselves carry separate manufacturer warranties — most are lifetime structural warranties from premium suppliers like Rochester Concrete Products and Versa-Lok. If anything fails due to our installation work within the warranty period, we come back and fix it at no cost. To date, we've never been called back on a hardscape installation.
