Small Crew.
High Standards.
We're not a big landscaping company with a rotating roster of crews. When you hire YD Exterior Visions, Jonah is on the job — and your project gets the attention it deserves.
Jonah personally oversees every stone edging project — no subcontractors, no shortcuts. You get consistent quality from start to finish.
We set edgers properly — packed tight with the right base — so they don't shift, heave, or scatter after a Wisconsin freeze-thaw cycle.
Our clients consistently call out our communication and quality. We show up when we say we will and leave your yard cleaner than we found it.
Stone Edging Questions, Answered Honestly
The questions Madison homeowners ask most before starting a stone edging project — answered straight, without sales fluff. If yours isn't here, just call or text.
How long does stone edging last?
Properly installed stone edging lasts decades. Tumbled Belgian edgers and natural granite are essentially permanent — they don't degrade, fade, or break down. What determines actual lifespan is the installation: edgers installed on a compacted base with the right depth stay locked in place through Wisconsin freeze-thaw cycles, while edgers set in loose soil or without proper base prep can shift, heave, or scatter within a few seasons. Built right, stone edging will outlast almost everything else in your landscape.
What types of stone edging do you install?
We install premium edgers including tumbled Belgian (in colors like Quarry Gray, Belgian Gray, Belgian Autumn, and Kendall Charcoal), natural granite (Rose Granite, Buff Granite, Granite Gray, Kendall Gray), and small boulder edging for a more rustic look. We bring physical samples to every consultation so you can see exactly how each option looks against your home and existing landscape before committing.
How long does a stone edging installation take?
Most stone edging projects take 1 to 3 working days from start to finish. A standard 60-foot front-yard install typically runs 1 to 2 days. Larger property-wide projects with multiple beds, complex curves, or required excavation can run 3 to 5 days. Weather can extend timelines — we don't rush base prep when conditions aren't right, because shortcuts there are what cause edgers to shift in year two or three.
Why is stone edging better than plastic or metal edging?
Plastic edging warps, fades, and lifts out of the ground after a few Wisconsin winters. Metal edging rusts and bends. Both look cheap up close. Stone edging is a one-time install that looks better with age, doesn't require replacement, and dramatically improves the curb appeal of your property. The upfront cost is higher than plastic, but you're not coming back to replace it in 3-5 years like you would with cheaper materials.
Do you offer a project minimum for stone edging?
Yes, our minimum project size for stone edging is $1,000. This covers the setup, equipment mobilization, and material delivery costs that exist on every project regardless of size. Most residential edging jobs land between $1,500 and $4,000 depending on linear footage and material choice. For projects under our minimum, we recommend bundling edging with another service like a mulch refresh, new plantings, or a patio install to bring the total project value up.
Can stone edging hold back mulch or rock without it spilling out?
Yes — that's one of its main jobs. We install edgers at the right depth and height to fully contain mulch or decorative rock inside the bed, without spilling onto the lawn or sidewalk. Properly installed edging keeps your beds looking clean for years and significantly reduces the maintenance time spent re-edging or sweeping mulch back into place.
What kind of warranty do you offer on stone edging?
All of our stone edging installations come with a 1-year workmanship warranty from the date of completion. The edgers themselves are essentially permanent — granite and tumbled Belgian don't degrade or fail. If anything shifts, heaves, or settles due to our installation work within the first year, we come back and fix it at no cost to you. To date, we've never had to come back on a stone edging install — proper base prep and depth get you that kind of track record.
