Boulder Retaining Wall — Bishops Bay, Middleton, WI

This Bishops Bay home sits on a grade, and the foundation bed on the side of the house had nothing holding it — mulch and soil were washing out onto the lawn every spring. We cut a base into the slope, compacted it, and built a two-course fieldstone boulder wall set to lean back into the hill, the way a boulder wall has to be built to hold through Wisconsin freeze-thaw.

Behind the wall we reset the bed with new fabric and fresh mulch. The disturbed slope was regraded, seeded, and pinned with straw erosion blanket so it holds until the grass comes in.
